LES RIGBY 1981-1984 |

It would be no untruth to say that at this moment in the history of Morecambe Football Club, that the club was in a complete mess and that the appointment of Les Rigby in 1981 was the beginning of the healing process. Les had made in excess of 700 appearances for a variety of clubs. Among them Wigan Athletic, Netherfield and local rivals Lancaster City. He was also player-manager at Lytham and manager at Fleetwood, Rossendale United, Chorley, Great Harwood Town and Altrincham. It took Les a full season to get some semblance of a team, laying the foundations for later success. However 1983-84 was a poor season and after a run of bad results Les was asked by the then board to reduce his wage bill. He was unwilling to do so and was sacked by the board in January 1984. His most notable feature was his booming voice from the stand where he normally sat issuing team instructions.
