Gerry Irving ~ Ronnie Mitchell

Both Gerry and Ronnie took over the reins of the club team affairs after the sacking of former manager Ronnie Clayton, as joint Caretaker-Mangers until the re-appointment of Ken Waterhouse for the second time.

Gerry Irving was born in Maryport. Playing previously for Workington and the Queen of the South in the Scottish League. Signed for Morecambe as a half-back 1964-69, he played for the club in 172 games and netting 3 goals, winning Championship and Cup honours. Went on to be club trainer for a number of seasons, including 1974 when the club won the F.A. Trophy at Wembley. 

Ronnie Mitchell, Morecambe born, played as a junior for Red Rose, Preston North End and Bolton le Sands. He played for Morecambe 1st team 1954-59 before being transferred to Leeds United, making 4 appearances. Ronnie returned to Morecambe 1960-67, making a total of 216 League, 63 Cup appearances and netting 5 goals for the Shrimps as a full-back. Later he was First Team Trainer and Reserve Team Trainer.
