A former Centre-half for his home club, Carlisle United (1946-53), turning out for the club 149 times before joining Liverpool. At Anfield he made 170 appearances for the Reds (mainly playing in the 2nd Division), hitting the net 18 times for the club. He went on to sign for Ballymena United playing in the Irish League in Inter-League games. He moved back to Carlisle, 1963-64 making a further 10 appearance before being appointed Player-Manager of Morecambe. Geoff made 20 League and 12 Cup appearance and scoring a goal. The 1964-65 saw the club have success in winning the Lancashire Combination Cup and finishing 3rd in the League. Geoff left the club at end of the season, moving to Liverpool to in the back room staff, mainly as Chief-Scout.
