Lancaster born, playing for several local junior teams. Signed for Preston North End just before the outbreak of the Second World War. Made guest appearances for Manchester United, twice for Millwall in 1942-43 and twice for Preston in 1944-45 during the war. After the war he returned to Preston making his debut in his only game for them in 1st team football in 1946-47. He went on to join Stockport County to become their leading goalscorer with 12 goals, 1947-48, making 36 appearances. 1949-51 he played for Southport, who were in the League, appearing for them in 49 games , with 11 goals. Albert in 1951 went on to join Lancaster City until 1954. After success with them he was signed as a player for Morecambe. In his playing career for the club he played in 54 league games and 6 cup, scoring 25 league goals and 3 cup. He was appointed Manager for the 1955-56 season. However results proved to be very poor and he was replaced as manager for following season. He did however start a youth policy at Christie Park.
